Palace Museum calendar welcomes Year of the Goat

Various editions of the Palace Museum Calendar 2027 were released on Sept 16, offering an early reminder that the Year of the Goat is drawing near.

The Palace Museum, also known as the Forbidden City, served as China's imperial palace from 1420 to 1911. Each year, fans of traditional Chinese culture eagerly follow the release of its new calendar. More than 10 million copies have been sold since the first edition was published in 2009.

With more than 1.95 million cultural relics in its collection, the museum offers a vast resource of inspiration for the calendar's editors.

The Chinese zodiac edition features images and introductions to 90 goat-themed cultural relics from the museum's collection, offering an encyclopedic look at the cultural significance of the goat throughout Chinese history.

The calligraphy and painting edition features more than 300 works from the museum's collection. Alongside marking the changing seasons, the selected works trace the development of figure painting and court painting through history.

The auspicious edition draws on porcelain, tapestries, colorful architectural paintings, interior decoration, bronze wares and other relics to explore ancient people's hopes for good fortune.

Another edition is a bilingual Chinese-English calendar, featuring translations of information about cultural relics and traditional Chinese culture.

The calendars are now available on online platforms and in bookstores.
