In June 2026, eight Chinese ministries jointly issued guidelines to accelerate the integration of artificial intelligence with consumer industries, encouraging AI-powered cultural and tourism experiences.

A month later, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism unveiled the 15th Five-Year Plan for Building a Tourism Powerhouse, calling for more interactive tourism products and stronger integration of culture, tourism, sports and commerce.

The plan also encourages business districts to introduce intangible cultural heritage experiences, creative markets, live performances and distinctive local cuisine, providing a clear roadmap for innovation while ensuring traditional culture remains relevant in everyday life.

Xi'an draws on the cultural heritage of the Qin (221-206 BC) and Tang (618-907) dynasties, re-creating history through immersive experiences. Kaifeng revives the vibrant streets and marketplaces of the Song Dynasty (960-1279), offering visitors a glimpse into everyday life centuries ago.
