Nearly 1,000 attendees participated in breathing exercises, keynote speeches and dialogues, exploring diverse dimensions of physical and mental wellness on the opening day of Lululemon Athletica Inc's sixth Wellbeing for All program, held on October 7 at Shanghai's Shangyin Opera House, ahead of World Mental Health Day.
Lynn Cheah, senior vice-president of brand marketing at lululemon China, said the brand has explored the meaning of well-being across physical, psychological and social perspectives since 2021. This year's program centers on personal feelings, inviting people to nurture their well-being through breathing, movement and conversation, and embrace the natural ebbs and flows of life.
Four speakers from different fields shared their insights. US well-being expert Jesse Israel shared how mindfulness and breathwork transformed his life. Wang Jiachao , China's first Paralympic triathlete, reflected on breaking through physical limits and finding his career passion through movement and self-awareness. Former table tennis world champion Deng Yaping spoke about mental resilience and performance mindset, sharing psychological methods honed throughout her athletic career and lifelong learning journey. Humanities scholar Liang Yong'an focused on young people's social well-being, emphasizing the power of listening and creativity in building meaningful connections.
Brand ambassador Chris Lee headlined the closing dialogue with the host. Reflecting on her 21-year career spanning tours, travel and sports, she noted there is no universal standard for a good state. "What matters is staying curious, continuing to move forward, and allowing ourselves to discover what well-being means to each of us," she said.
The event also marked the China debut of Resonant Ping Pong Table, Song No 1, a sound art installation by artist James de Wulf first unveiled at Design Miami Paris 2025. The installation turns each ball strike into tuned tones, blending movement and sound in a therapeutic experience, which is on display at Shanghai's West Bund Central from Oct 8 to 18.
Following the opening event, the program will extend to local communities. From Oct 10 to 17, lululemon will partner with studios across Shanghai for an eight-day themed sweat program, with parallel store-level events rolling out nationwide.
