A designer's fashionable evolution

In 1980, Lyu Yue left her hometown of Shenyang, Liaoning province, to enter the Fine Arts School affiliated with the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. The young woman who had planned to be an artist gradually felt her interest in fashion design awakening.

Decades later, Lyu became a seasoned designer and returned to her alma mater as one of the first faculty members in CAFA's fashion design major.

Lyu's career evolution has not only been personal, but it also offers a glimpse into the development of the country's fashion industry.

Through Yue: Witnessing Chinese Fashion, an exhibition at the CAFA Art Museum, charts Lyu's growth from an aspiring student who made clothes for friends in her youth to a professor whose work cultivates new generations of fashion designers.

Her manuscripts, fashion show photos, designs, interview videos, and installations are on show until Oct 7, delving into the depths of time during which drastic changes in lifestyles and values have been vividly reflected in people's clothing.
