Documentary following the lives of international students in China set to debut

The Moon Is Yours, a documentary that takes a look at international communication through the lives of overseas students, is set to hit the screen in China on Sept 24.

Directed by Wu Bei, a film director and alumnus of Fudan University's School of Journalism, the documentary follows the journey of six overseas students coming to China from across the world. In collaboration with external partners, the work was created and refined with the participation of over 100 Fudan University faculty and students.

Over three and a half years, the film crew traveled to several countries across Asia, Africa, and North America to shoot on location. The six international students featured are from Russia, Croatia, Zimbabwe, Italy, Thailand, and the United States. With a total of over 1,200 hours of footage, the film follows the students on their journeys of putting down roots in Shanghai and traveling across China to further pursue their studies and dreams.

Some of the students featured aspire to be medical professionals, determined to contribute to global healthcare development, while others delve into the cutting edge of academia to explore the true essence of humanistic and philosophical thought. Some cross mountains and seas to find their own values in unfamiliar lands.

The camera authentically captures their passion and confusion, as well as their perseverance and growth, along the journey. Their individual stories strike an emotional resonance shared by global youth and collectively draw a portrait of young people worldwide pursuing their dreams regardless national boundaries.

Previously, the film garnered a number of international awards and hit overseas screens in Singapore, Poland, Pakistan, and Malaysia.

China's higher education has deepened its opening up to the world in recent years. Through the lens of youth, the documentary portrays China's open and inclusive educational environment, eclectic cultural spirit, and broad platforms full of opportunities.

It also showcases the nation's wide-open arms to embrace youth worldwide. Overseas students are welcomed to get rooted in China to grow and flourish, and they could also return to their homelands with their knowledge and insights gained in the nation to together build a brighter future of the world.
