Landscape Architecture Awards highlight design innovations

How do you transform a once-polluted city river into a green retreat where people can relax and escape the bustle of daily life? How can underused public spaces in aging residential communities be redesigned to better serve the senior citizens who rely on them most? The solutions can be found among the finalists of this year's Landscape Architecture Awards.

The winners of the third Landscape Architecture Awards were recently announced at a ceremony in Beijing, accompanied by a series of themed salons that discussed how urban landscapes can enhance the appearance of cities while improving the quality of life for residents.

Launched in 2021 by the School of Landscape Architecture at Beijing Forestry University, the awards are rooted in a distinctly Chinese perspective, while taking into consideration nature, humanity, aesthetics, and innovation.

This year, 40 works from across the country were selected as finalists. They represent the cutting edge of China's landscape architecture industry, in areas such as urban renewal, ecological restoration and the revitalization of industrial heritage sites, such as former factories.
