On Feb 11, an evening gala themed "Focus in Africa, Happy Chinese New Year" was held at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Wang Ke, Chinese ambassador to Tanzania, Tulia Ackson Mwansasu, deputy speaker of the National Assembly of Tanzania and other Chinese and Tanzanian officials attended the event, along with more than 1,500 people from all walks of life.

Wang first extended her new year greetings to local Chinese and all Tanzanian people. She said "Happy Chinese New Year" events, held for nine years running in Tanzania, has played an important role in promoting Chinese culture among the locals as well as deepening the friendship between the people of the two countries. She also expressed high expectations of warmer relations between them in the coming year.
