Teenage Chinese-language enthusiasts from over 100 countries touched down in China on Tuesday for the start of the global finals of the Chinese-language competitions under the Chinese Bridge brand, which will run until Sept 22.

These young cultural messengers are gathering in China to compete, make friends, and experience authentic Chinese culture during the 19th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students and the 6th Chinese Bridge Chinese Show for Foreign Primary School Students Summer Camp.

At Beijing Capital International Airport, excited contestants greeted volunteers with simple Chinese greetings. Many took photos with event signage upon arrival. Some young learners have visited China before, while others set foot on Chinese soil for the first time.

Onderus Adam, a contestant from Slovakia, previously studied for six months at Tianjin University. Inspired by Chinese movies and his family's business links with China, he has written a comedic monologue about geography for the contest.

Gwiza Sabrina from Rwanda completed a long multi-leg flight for her first trip abroad. She dreams of visiting the Great Wall and plans to present a traditional Rwandan dance on stage.

The contestants, coming from Tajikistan, the Cook Islands, Ecuador, and other nations, share a passion for the Chinese language and culture. Though they speak different mother tongues, they quickly bonded by communicating in Chinese.

Many have prepared distinctive performances, such as traditional opera, folk dances, native musical acts, and even a violin rendition of Chinese folk music.

Later, the group will travel to Tianjin for follow-up contests and cultural activities.
