The 35th anniversary celebration of the cooperation between China Social Sciences Press and Cambridge University Press was held at the China National Convention Center during the 32nd Beijing International Book Fair, which concluded on June 21.

In his speech, Ji Weimin, president of China Social Sciences Press, reviewed the history of cooperation: as early as the 1990s, when academic exchanges between China and foreign countries were still in their infancy, the two sides took the lead in introducing Chinese rights to The Cambridge History of China, marking the beginning of their partnership.

Over the past 35 years, their cooperation has expanded from a single copyright agreement to multidisciplinary, comprehensive and in-depth collaboration. They have launched seven major historical series, including The New Cambridge Modern History, The Cambridge Ancient History, and The Cambridge History of Christianity, and have published a total of 46 volumes, with translated texts exceeding 36.8 million Chinese characters. Several works have been selected for major projects of the National Social Science Fund of China, involving over 100 domestic scholars in translation and introduction efforts.

Since 2014, the cooperation model has been fully upgraded, with A Social History of Middle-Period China: The Song, Liao, Western Xia and Jin Dynasties included in the Cambridge China Library, achieving a profound leap from language translation to the dissemination of academic thought, Ji said.
