The "China Porcelain Global Journey" — China Contemporary Ceramic Art International Touring Exhibition officially opened at the China Cultural Center in Luxembourg on June 15. Co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Luxembourg, Jingdezhen Ceramic University, China Cultural Center in Luxembourg and China International Culture Group, the event marked a significant step in cultural exchange along the Silk Road.
Over 150 guests attended the opening ceremony, including Chinese Ambassador to Luxembourg Hua Ning, Luxembourg's Ambassador-at-Large and former ambassador to China Marc Hübsch, Director of China Cultural Center in Luxembourg Mu Yuwei, Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Luxembourg Jauffrey Bareille, and renowned local artists Bertrand Ney and Philippe Treinen.
In his speech, Hua stated that art is a vital bridge between civilizations and that Jingdezhen has evolved into an international art hub. He expressed hope that the exhibition would deepen dialogue and cooperation between Chinese and foreign art communities. Zhang Jingjing, chief curator and vice president of Jingdezhen Ceramic University, said in a video speech that the exhibition reflects on the millennium-old ceramic legacy while fostering mutual understanding across cultures through art. Mu emphasized that porcelain serves as both a carrier of Chinese civilization and a bridge connecting the world, adding that the center will continue to promote cultural dialogue. Bareille highlighted that art, as a universal medium, enables civilizations to renew themselves while engaging with global contexts. Luxembourg artist Ney shared his long-term creative practice in China and praised the vitality of contemporary Chinese ceramics.
The exhibition features nearly 100 representative works from major ceramic production areas, including Jingdezhen, Yixing, Luoyang, Longquan, Yaozhou, Liling, and Dehua. Covering blue-and-white porcelain, linglong ware, color glazes, and comprehensive decorations, the pieces honor traditional craftsmanship while showcasing contemporary innovations. The touring exhibition will continue to Turkiye and France, expanding the global presence of Chinese ceramic art.
After the ceremony, a hands-on event titled "Gifts from China" invited guests to try overglaze painting, blue-and-white drawing, and ceramic molding under artists' guidance, offering an immersive experience of the ceramic-making process.
The exhibition, running through Aug 30, embodies the spirit of mutual learning and shared progress among civilizations. Through displays, craftsmanship demonstrations and interactive experiences, it vividly illustrates the contemporary vitality of Chinese traditional culture and contributes to deepening the bonds between the people of China and Luxembourg.
