Touching stories help build a bridge between relics and people

China's Cultural and Natural Heritage Day falls on the second Saturday of June every year, and its theme this year is "Cultural relics belong to the people and serve the people".

Sharing his understanding of the theme in Dialogues with Thinkers, Hang Kan, director of the Yungang Research Institute, said a key feature of all cultural relics is that they belong to the public, serving as cultural resources for the people. However, in order for the public to better understand these resources, relevant experts should explore interesting stories behind the cultural relics and build a bridge of understanding.

The National Museum of China is currently hosting an exhibition titled Discoveries at Li Jingxun's Tomb, featuring cultural relics unearthed from the tomb of Li Jingxun, a young aristocratic girl of the Sui Dynasty (581-618) who died aged nine. What makes Li Jingxun's story stand out is the choice of her burial site. Instead of burying her outside the city, as was the common practice, her family buried her within the city, close to their home. This kind of information resonates with the visitors, drawing crowds in large numbers.
