In his paintings, Li Jinpeng blends the detached mood of classical Chinese mountain-and-water paintings with Western abstraction and conceptual art to create surreal scenes that reflect the tensions of modern life.

Code, Vision, Li's ongoing exhibition at Beijing's Huaixuan Art Gallery, presents dozens of recent acrylic works. Bold, colorful geometric forms project a sense of order and restraint. Beneath that surface calm, however, Li, a faculty member at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, probes the dilemmas of individuals navigating digital landscapes and the haze of commercialization.

Curated by Wei Xiangqi, a senior curator at the National Art Museum of China, the exhibition runs through March 20.
