The six-episode documentary series Shanxi in Sight will be released on China Central Television from Monday to Wednesday, with two episodes every night.
Produced by Shanxi's culture and tourism department, Shanxi in Sight is a travel and exploration-style documentary series that explores the province's cultural code. It is divided into three parts, each centering around one tourist hotspot - Datong, Taiyuan and Yuncheng.
Producers spent six months visiting 50 ancient buildings and scenic spots in nearly 20 counties within the three cities, interviewing roughly a hundred individuals.
The series showcases Shanxi's numerous treasures of ancient architecture, its vibrant local life and the craftsmanship and patriotic sentiments behind them.
Viewers will see how Shanxi locals are working to restore, interpret and pass on the province's history from a contemporary perspective. Their lives are depicted as modern people living among the ancient structures, sculptures, murals, relics and intangible cultural heritage that give Shanxi a reputation as the cradle of Chinese civilization.
Through telling the ordinary stories of Shanxi people, Shanxi in Sight embodies historical and cultural connotations and the humanistic care and warmth of the province's culture.
