Chen Mingming, a distinguished translator from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and deputy director of the China Academy of Translation, underscored the importance of addressing the deeper meanings in cross-cultural translation.
"In international exchanges, Chinese metaphors are often employed to effectively and vividly convey critical ideas and positions. Translators must understand how such metaphors are perceived in different cultural contexts, adapt strategies accordingly, and strive to avoid misinterpretations, while accurately reflecting the original meaning," he said.
He called for deeper analysis of rhetorical devices to improve clarity and effectiveness in cross-cultural communication.
