A group of 20 civil servants in Wellington, New Zealand, recently passed their exams on Chinese language after attending Business Chinese training classes.
Diane Hailstone, manager of the Organization Department of the New Zealand National Museum, is one of the learners who had good grades during the study.
Hailstone, who is half Chinese and half British, did not learn Mandarin growing up.
"Now I can understand many Chinese sentences, and know more than 200 characters. I am so happy that I could finally use Chinese to communicate with my mom and aunt on WeChat," she said.
Launched in 2018, the training program on Business Chinese was the third session organized by the China Cultural Center in Wellington, the Wellington City Council and Xiamen University. It is designed for civil servants in tourism, culture and business departments.
Guo Zongguang, the center director congratulated the learners for their excellent performance and encouraged them to keep studying Chinese.
