Local residents built a temple in her honor and began to venerate her as a goddess. She is celebrated twice each year in formal temple fairs, when Meizhou residents, farmers and fisherfolk temporarily suspend their work to venerate statues of Mazu and enjoy a variety of dances and other performances.

Through five acts, the dance drama frames the modern construction of Mazu temples and festival rituals while exploring the legendary woman's transformation from mortal to deity. Top-tier domestic creative talent, including directors, choreographers, composers, and designers, has joined forces to ensure that the production is both artistically sophisticated and culturally resonant.

Slated for its world premiere in Fujian province this October, it aims to promote Chinese folk heritage globally and offer an immersive experience of a millennium-old tradition through the universal language of dance.
