The Michelin Guide unveiled its 2027 Beijing and Tianjin restaurant selection on Tuesday, marking Tianjin's debut in the guide and bringing greater attention to the culinary diversity of Northern China.

The combined selection features 134 establishments, including 34 Michelin-starred restaurants, 48 Bib Gourmand establishments and 52 Michelin Selected restaurants. Three restaurants received new Michelin stars, while 23 earned their first Bib Gourmand distinction. Four industry professionals were also honored with special awards.

Tianjin's inaugural selection features 27 establishments: one Michelin Star restaurant, 16 Bib Gourmand establishments and 10 Michelin Selected restaurants.

"The inclusion of Beijing and Tianjin in a single Michelin Guide selection marks an important new chapter for the culinary landscape of the region," said Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide.

He said Beijing's openness, creativity and diversity, together with Tianjin's distinctive local traditions and regional flavors, demonstrate the vitality of Northern Chinese gastronomy.

Beijing's selection features 107 restaurants. Chao Shang Chao in Chaoyang district and Xin Rong Ji on Xinyuan South Road retain their Three Michelin Stars, while Black Swan, Jingji, King's Joy, Lamdre and Lu Shang Lu continue to hold Two Michelin Stars each.

The capital's one-star category now includes 26 restaurants representing 14 cuisine styles. Chef 1996, known for its Sichuan cuisine, was promoted from Michelin Selected, while contemporary restaurant Old Tower earned a star upon its debut in the guide.

Seven Beijing restaurants newly earned Bib Gourmand distinctions, representing cuisines including Beijing, Shandong, Fujian, Cantonese, Sichuan and Taizhou. The distinction recognizes establishments that serve good food at accessible prices.

In Tianjin, China Banquet became the city's first Michelin-starred restaurant. Specializing in Huaiyang cuisine, it serves traditional dishes such as brine-marinated squab and crab-filled dumplings.

The city's Bib Gourmand selection celebrates its local dining traditions, from classic Tianjin specialties and dumpling houses to seafood restaurants and neighborhood favorites.

Four professionals received special awards for their contributions to the hospitality industry.

Dai Jun of two-starred Lamdre in Beijing received the Mentor Chef Award for his culinary expertise and commitment to nurturing younger talent.

Zhang Yunjia, head chef of Michelin-Selected Under Clouds Green in Beijing, won the Young Chef Award for transforming the restaurant into a plant-based dining destination.

Qiao Wei of Tianjin's Bib Gourmand restaurant Re Hai Fan Zhuang received the Service Award, while Italian sommelier Andrea Amadio of Michelin-Selected Monsieur Dior by Anne-Sophie Pic in Beijing received the Sommelier Award.
