Memorial commemorates birth of Confucius

A grand memorial ceremony was held at the Confucian Temple and Imperial College Museum in Beijing on Monday to commemorate the 2,577th anniversary of the birth of Confucius (551-479 BC), the great Chinese philosopher and educator.

Lu Jiabing, the museum's director, delivered a ceremonial address expressing remembrance and reverence for Confucius.

In turn, representative guests paid homage to the memorial tablets of Confucius and other ancient philosophers. Dancers in ancient costumes performed a traditional ceremonial dance in front of an ancient hall. As the museum's signature cultural event, it is held annually.

The permanent exhibition Great Indeed Is Confucius simultaneously opened at the museum.
