Three-day festival celebrates Guangong's lasting heritage

The three-day Guangong Cultural Tourism Festival's opening ceremony kicked off on Wednesday at the Guandi Temple in Haizhou, Yuncheng, North China's Shanxi province.

Guangong is a revered name for Guan Yu, also known as Guandi, or Emperor Guan, a general who lived during the late Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220) and the Three Kingdoms (220-280) period. He has long been revered as a symbol of loyalty, righteousness and bravery in traditional Chinese culture.

Yuncheng is regarded as the birthplace of Guangong culture. Now in its 37th edition, the Guangong Cultural Tourism Festival has grown into one of Shanxi province's most influential cultural exchange events. The festival aims to further deepen research and interpretation of Guangong culture and pursue innovation while staying true to its cultural roots.
