Chinese action filmmakers gathered in Harbin, Heilongjiang province, on Aug 10 to discuss the evolution of the country's action cinema, from the global expansion of kung fu films to the challenges facing the genre today.
The international action film roundtable was held as part of the seventh Jackie Chan International Action Film Week, bringing together directors and actors from Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland.
Director Stanley Tong, who collaborated with Jackie Chan in the 1995 film Rumble in the Bronx, said Chinese action films often place greater emphasis on human relationships, loyalty and the lives of ordinary people than many Hollywood productions.
