Action legend Jackie Chan will headline a major summer celebration of action cinema in Harbin, Heilongjiang province, as filmmakers, stunt performers and emerging talents from around the world gather for two back-to-back film events along the Songhua River.

A news conference held on May 14 at the China National Film Museum announced that the inaugural Sun Island Film Week will run from Aug 6 to 9, followed by the 7th Jackie Chan International Action Film Week from Aug 10 to 12. Together, the twin events aim to create a weeklong cinematic showcase combining film screenings, industry exchanges and award ceremonies.

Launched by Chan in 2015, the Jackie Chan International Action Film Week has grown into one of China's most influential platforms dedicated to action cinema, with a particular focus on honoring stunt performers, doubles and action choreographers — professionals who often work behind the scenes with little public recognition.

Speaking emotionally at the launch ceremony, Chan, 72, reflected on the dedication of generations of action filmmakers. "Although the names of stunt performers are rarely featured on movie posters, countless filmmakers have devoted themselves to creating action scenes and protecting the spirit of cinema in their own way," he said.
