Rare Tyrannosaurus rex fossils went on public display in Beijing on Tuesday as the exhibition T-REX — A Special Exhibition for the King of Dinosaurs opened at the Natural History Museum of China. The event is the first time that T. rex skeleton fossils have been displayed in the Chinese mainland.

Running through Oct 11, the exhibition also brings together the most comprehensive assembly to date of tyrannosaur family specimens in China.

Focusing on Tyrannosaurus rex as the apex predator of the Cretaceous period, the exhibition presents a combination of fossil specimens and scientific reconstructions to trace the species' evolution and paleontological significance.

Among more than 100 exhibits, over 85 percent are original fossils, including "Rocky", a juvenile specimen from the Dinosaurier Museum Altmuhltal in Germany.

Organizers said the exhibition introduces high-level international paleontological resources to China, strengthens public science education, and meets the growing demand for high-quality cultural exhibitions.

Beyond North American T. rex specimens, the exhibition also highlights China's own tyrannosaur relatives. This is the first time such a comprehensive group of Chinese tyrannosaur species has been systematically presented together, offering new insights into regional diversity and evolutionary behavior among large theropods.
