As a playwright, Peking opera actor and drama educator, Ouyang is considered as one of the founders of the modern Chinese spoken drama.
Another founding father is Tian who is most well-known for writing the lyrics for March of the Volunteers which later became the national anthem of the People’s Republic of China.
