Pupils get a hands-on cultural lesson

Fu Chunxi, a dough-sculpture artist, was invited to give primary school pupils an immersive experience of the intangible cultural heritage in Guanxian county, Shandong province, in early June.

Fu taught them the major techniques of dough shaping while explaining the connotations of traditional culture. Children enthusiastically participated in the creation of dough sculptures, such as flowers and animals, showcasing their imagination and creativity.

"As a traditional folk art form in China, dough sculpture represents the rich cultural heritage and creativity of the Chinese nation," Fu says.

Through on-site production of dough sculptures, children can experience the joy of kneading and shaping images, cultivate hands-on skills and artistic expression, Fu says.

As the Cultural and Natural Heritage Day is approaching, local authorities arranged the event to stimulate children's love for traditional Chinese culture. More quality activities will be staged to enrich the spiritual and cultural needs of the public, according to the authorities.
