Filigree inlay is a sophisticated and subtle work, in which every step is time and energy consuming. "This requires me to put a lot of energy and efforts on it. I have to practice and repeat to make things perfect. Taking filigree making as an example, I need to stretch metal threads, 5 millimeters in diameter, into thinner filaments. Now the thinnest filament is only 0.16 mm in diameter," said Gu.
After becoming familiar with this technique, Gu turned to think how to match the traditional handicrafts with modern life, spreading filigree inlay art to more people.
"I tried to design some suitable accessories for modern people, such as hairpins, earrings and brooches, connecting this technique with modern life." Gu also assimilates Western aesthetic ideology and applies it into the productions that are made out of Chinese materials and techniques.
