The Overseas Chinese History Museum of China in Beijing is holding an exhibition displaying more than 300 items to present overseas Chinese people's contributions to the country's revolution, development and the reform and opening-up process over the century.
The exhibition aims to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.
According to Wan Lijun, president of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, overseas Chinese people — some coming back to join the revolution and construction of the homeland and others endeavoring and supporting the country abroad— have played a unique and important role in the founding of the CPC and the spread of Marxism in the 1920s, and later in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1931-45) and the civil war (1945-49).
They were also among the first to set up foreign-invested enterprises in the Chinese mainland since the reform and opening-up.
Wan said during the opening ceremony of the exhibition on Monday that the history of overseas Chinese people over the years has been intertwined with the Party's history.
The exhibition runs through the middle of July.
