NetEase Indie Music Awards 2019-2020 was held on April 23.
Aiming to promote original Chinese music, the awards reviewed the country's music scene during the past two years and presented about 16 awards.
Chinese indie band, Omnipotent Youth Society, won the Best Album of the Year award for their second full-length album, Inside the Cable Temple, which was released online on Dec 22, 2020. The album has sold over 11 million yuan and the band performed one of their songs, Cai Shi, during the ceremony.
Chinese pop singer-songwriter Hua Chenyu won the Best Selling Digital Album of the Year award for his album New World. The total revenue of the digital album has crossed over 35.9 million yuan.
The Best Male Artist of the Year award was given to singer Jackson Wang, who performed his latest single, LMLY, during the ceremony. Singer Tan Weiwei won the Best Female Artist of the Year award.
NetEase Cloud Music, one of the country's major music streaming platforms, which was launched in 2013, has built up a reputation for supporting and promoting Chinese musicians. So far over 200,000 Chinese musicians have launched their channels on the platform and their music works have been played for over 300 billion times on the platform.
