On pointe
Award winning ballet productions from the Beijing International Ballet and Choreography Competition will soon hit the stage. Ballet dancers, including Qiu Yunting, Xu Yan and Li Wentao, will be featured in the productions which include the classic Black Swan pas de deux, Giselle pas de deux, as well as original Chinese contemporary ballet pieces such as Sad Birds and Permanent Yesterday. The competition has been offering a platform for young Chinese dancer-choreographers since 2011.

Battlefield heroines
The China National Peking Opera Company will stage the classic Peking Opera piece The Female Generals of the Yang Family. Set in the Song Dynasty (960−1279), the story is based on legends about the widowed women of the Yang family who are loyal to the emperor, and how they stepped up to take charge of the battlefield after the deaths of their husbands. Peking Opera actresses Dong Juan and Guo Xiao will play the heroine Mu Guiying.
