A series of "Chinese Literature Day" events were recently held in Argentina and Brazil, aiming to build cultural bridges and deepen mutual learning between China and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).
The cultural exchange kicked off in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where the China Writers Association partnered with the El Libro Foundation to host a major event. Attended by over 200 local readers, the gathering featured a high-profile dialogue between Alejandro Vaccaro, president of the Argentine Society of Writers, and a Chinese delegation, including Nobel Laureate Mo Yan, alongside young authors Suonancairang and Yang Zhihan. The writers engaged in deep discussions regarding creative inspiration, writing experiences, and cross-cultural communication.
The initiative then moved to Brazil, where the China Writers Association and São Paulo State University co-hosted a follow-up event in São Paulo. The celebrated author Mo Yan joined renowned Brazilian author Milton Hatoum to discuss literary creation, technological advancement, and the mutual learning of civilizations.
The São Paulo event also marked the official launch of several Portuguese translations of contemporary Chinese literary works. Concurrently, Suonancairang and Yang Zhihan introduced Brazilian audience to the evolving themes and perspectives shaping China's new generation of literature.
