In celebration of China's Cultural and Natural Heritage Day in Shenyang, Liaoning province, the Shenyang City Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology took center stage at this year's festivities. Organizing a public archaeological event at the Liaoning Provincial Museum, the institute offered a unique opportunity for the public to witness and engage with archaeological work firsthand on Saturday.

This interactive activity showcased archaeological studies within the laboratory setting and involved a group of primary school students in archaeological excavation and research on International Children's Day. The young participants were immersed in the ongoing exploration of remains unearthed from a collection of Liao Dynasty (916-1125) tombs located in the Zhangjiayao tree farm, Kangping county, Shenyang.

Within the museum's laboratory, the students were introduced to more than 500 funerary objects discovered in the tombs, including pottery, bronze, iron, jade vessels, and gold and silver artifacts. Witnessing the meticulous nature of archaeological work, the students gained a newfound appreciation for the discipline and expressed how their experience deepened their understanding of the five key aspects of Chinese civilization.
