Tianjin is a city that was born of a river and prospers by the sea. Join China Daily reporter Erik Nilsson as he explores Jinyi Park on the east bank of the Haihe River. Once the birthplace of New China's first fully geared lathe, this former machine tool factory is now a vibrant leisure hub where coffee replaces machine oil and old workshops host performances. Visitors can sip coffee in the restored experts' dormitory, then head to a craft beer bar for a cocktail made with Tianjin's local Jin liquor. The same thing, just enjoyed differently, just as this factory has found a new way to give back to the city. The revitalization has filled the gap in Tianjin's night economy and helped the city top China's most livable list for two consecutive years.
