Yinchuan residents wear paper-cutting outfits ahead of National Day

Seventy-seven residents in Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, took to the stage in handmade paper-cutting-themed outfits ahead of the National Day holiday, with each outfit representing one year since the founding of the People's Republic of China.

All from the Changcheng Huayuan community in Jinfeng district, the residents presented the outfits during a neighborhood festival that also featured performances, local food, and an exhibition of more than 200 paintings and calligraphy works created by locals.

Zhang Yumei, 71, who took part in the show, said they spent nearly a month designing, cutting, and making the 77 outfits themselves.

The event brought together residents from different ethnic groups around long tables filled with mooncakes, fried pastries, grapes, dates, and other food as they celebrated the upcoming National Day, which falls on Oct 1.

Residents of different ages performed songs and dances, while the art exhibition featured works depicting landscapes and scenes of everyday neighborhood life.

"It was wonderful to sit together with our neighbors, chat, and celebrate the holidays," resident Li Lijuan said. "It felt warm and close, just like being with family."
