Beijing Confucius Temple

Beijing Confucius Temple was built during the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) and served as a national site for ceremonies honoring Confucius throughout the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties (1271-1911). It stands alongside the Imperial College, the highest institution of learning in imperial China at the time. Its courtyards are arranged along a central axis, with ancient cypress trees and rows of stone steles, and centered on the solemn Dacheng Hall, where Confucius was honored.
