Blues on White, now on at Taikang Art Museum in Beijing, charts the evolution of Chinese contemporary art since the 1990s.

On show are dozens of images, installations and paintings that together form a body of work that invites the audience to pause for a moment of reflection. The exhibition runs until Oct 7.

The threads that connect the works include individual experiences, multi-generational relationships, differences in time periods, and memories. Together they reflect personal feelings and experiences across a broad social landscape.

Song Dong's work, for example, demonstrates efforts to bridge an unspeakable emotional chasm between father and son, while Xiang Jing's short film documents the journey of artist Wang Guangyi returning to his native Heilongjiang province.

The works of international artists are also on display, offering a global perspective on social changes over the past three decades.
