Old villas and bold designs define historic cityscape

When walking along Wudadao, you don't need to rush to see landmarks. Just follow your heart. Sunlight filters through the plane trees, casting dappled shadows across the streets. Vintage villas, quiet lanes and sculptures at every turn — one step, one view; one house, one story.

When I got tired, I stopped at a cafe for a drink, or just sat on a street-facing bench.

As night fell and the lights came on, Tianjin's romance truly began.

After a day of wandering, I took a Haihe River cruise strongly recommended by locals to experience the city's nightscape at its finest.

The river runs through the city center, connecting all its beauty and romance. Cruise docks are scattered along the river. A night ticket costs 168 yuan. The best times are the 7:30 pm and 8 pm departures. In summer, when days are longer, these two cruises let visitors catch sunset, twilight, and night views all in one ride.

As the boat glided gently along the river, the evening breeze softly brushed my face. The sky changed from golden sunset to deep blue night. The lights along the riverbanks came on, revealing the city's full skyline.

Near the water are rows of European-style red-roofed villas. Behind them, modern skyscrapers put on a dynamic light show, colors shifting and changing in perfect sync. Old meets new in a stunning visual feast.

The boat moved forward, and ahead, the iconic Ferris wheel — also called the Tianjin Eye — stood quietly on a bridge, glowing with dreamy lights, the most dazzling landmark in the night.

The evening breeze, flowing water, city lights, old villas, and the Ferris wheel, all reflecting off the river, showed Tianjin's gentle beauty and grand scale.

Transportation: From Beijing South Railway Station, dozens of high-speed trains depart daily for both Tianjin and Binhai New Area. The journey to downtown Tianjin takes about 30 minutes, while reaching Binhai New Area takes approximately one hour. Ticket prices are generally under 60 yuan (around $8.87). Tianjin is also served by its own airport, Tianjin Binhai International Airport. Within the city, you can conveniently use the metro or taxis, with most attractions being less than a 30-minute ride away.
