The first phase of the Zhangyuan eastern section was officially unveiled on Tuesday, spanning nearly 100 meters and connecting HKRI Taikoo Hui, Shanghai China Resources Center, and the century-old Shikumen heritage site, integrating Zhangyuan into the West Nanjing Road business district.
In partnership with London-based creative agency CLOSER, the project created the "gate of opportunity" public art installation and "corridor of time" landscape, preserving the original historical texture of Shikumen architecture and reinterpreting Haipai architectural symbols through contemporary artistic approaches.
Positioned as a landmark for global new product debuts, Zhangyuan has launched a lineup of first stores and limited-edition formats in the initial phase, including Palm Angels' first Shanghai pop-up concept store, the APEE Zhangyuan concept store, and China's first Barbie pop-up store. To date, the compound has gathered over 50 high-profile brand debut stores and exclusive concept outlets, with its first-launch economy gaining steady momentum.
Running alongside the opening, the 2026 Jing'an Fashion Culture Week presents themed runway shows featuring local designers. Two dedicated venues — the Jing'an Fashion Grand Hall and Jing'an Youth Fashion Exhibition — have been set up to facilitate Sino-Western aesthetic exchanges and showcase young creative talents.
Construction of the Zhangyuan eastern section will be fully completed in 2027, with follow-up restoration works to continue on Shikumen structures and upgrade of supporting facilities including metro transfer passages and parking lots.
