Diverse lineup heats up summer movie season

Among the most anticipated domestic releases is Crossing, a historical epic depicting the Red Army's legendary four crossings of the Chishui River during the Long March (1934-36). Producer Yu Dong said the filmmaking team aims to present this landmark chapter of Chinese revolutionary history from "a new-era perspective, with new narrative techniques and new technologies".

Other major domestic titles include Women De Mingzi (Our Name), inspired by the story of Chongqing police officer Feng Zhongcheng, who sacrificed his life while protecting others from a knife-wielding attacker, and the suspense thriller Hideaway: The Dossiers, which is based on the true story of underground Communist Party of China operatives safeguarding confidential archives in Shanghai in 1942.

The science fiction drama The Decisive Moment focuses on China's aerospace researchers, while Hong Kong filmmaker Stephen Chow's Kung Fu Soccer combines Chinese martial arts with the world's most popular sport in his signature comedic style.
