Bronze Hu of Jia Bo, Western Zhou Dynasty

Housed at the National Museum of Chinese Writing in Henan's Anyang, the Bronze Hu of Jia Bo used to be a ritual vessel dating to the late Western Zhou Dynasty (c.11th century-771 BC). Its neck is adorned with intricate bands of paired phoenix motifs, with ring handles finely crafted in the form of dragon heads on each side. Believed to have been one of the pair presented by Lord Jia Bo as a wedding gift to his daughter, the vessel still carries a touching message of enduring paternal love across nearly three millennia.
