Folk singer signs exclusive global publishing deal

Universal Music Publishing Group China has signed an exclusive global songwriting and composition rights agreement with Wan Xiaoli, one of China's most influential contemporary folk artists.

Known for his poetic lyrics, understated sincerity, and sharp insight into human nature, Wan has been a defining voice in Chinese independent music for more than 20 years.

Since his 2002 debut Walked Here, Walked There, he has continuously shaped the country's music landscape. His 2006 album It's Not as Bad as You Imagine is widely celebrated as a landmark in modern Chinese folk music, earning him multiple music awards in the country.

Over the years, Wan has released acclaimed albums including Northern of the North (2010), The Sun Looks Round (2015), and Wanderers and Disciples (2017).
