Arts magazine celebrates 700th edition

In February 1950, a bimonthly magazine, People's Art, was launched, with the first six issues discussing the restoration of Chinese paintings, lianhuanhua (picture-story books), New Year paintings and art curricula at primary and secondary schools.

Four years later, the magazine was renamed Art and issued every month as a platform for artists, curators, scholars and critics to reflect on creativity and trends within fine arts. Over the years, it has featured numerous paintings by prominent 20th-century artists on its cover, and been a witness to the course of fine arts over the last seven decades.

This month, the magazine published its 700th edition, featuring articles that review its achievements and look at how it will thrive and reinvent itself in the digital world.

The magazine also held a forum on Sunday during which an honorary editorial board was established. New members of the editorial board were also elected, comprising artists, scholars and administrators of art schools and institutions around the country.
