Rhapsody of Chu
For veteran artist Zhou Shaohua, now 96, the Yangtze River has been a defining presence throughout his decades-long career. His connection to the river began in the late 1940s, when he arrived in Hubei province. There, the shifting landscapes of the Yangtze and the rich heritage of ancient Chu culture shaped his artistic vision, helping establish him as a leading figure in the region's art scene.
Rhapsody of Jingchu, his ongoing exhibition at Hubei Provincial Museum in Wuhan, traces an artistic journey through history and pays tribute to the cultural legacy of Jingchu, another name for Hubei. Running until May 15, it especially spotlights his Rhapsody of Jingchu series, created by Zhou at age 77. In these works, he expresses a deep sense of freedom, reverence for nature, and the creative spirit of the people of the region.
