Tourism booms in Kashgar Old City

At the night market, visitors are easily enticed by booths of delicious roasted mutton skewers, milk ice cream, sweet pomegranate juice and fresh figs.

The booming tourism in the scenic area has directly created employment for over 20,000 people. In 2023, the Old City received nearly 17.4 million visitors, generating tourism revenue of about 12 billion yuan ($1.7 billion), a year-on-year increase of 163.8 percent. From January to May, about 4.63 million visitors traveled to the Old City, with tourism revenue reaching 2.91 billion yuan.
