Once revered as a cultural icon, Hong Kong films have long entranced generations of audiences in Chinese mainland. Now, the burgeoning talent within the Hong Kong film industry is poised for an expanded presence in the mainland market.
The Film Financing Scheme for the Chinese Mainland Market, designed to facilitate greater exposure for Hong Kong films in the mainland market, was unveiled at a news conference during the 14th Beijing International Film Festival. The program announced that it will commence accepting submissions from May 6.
Under the program's guidelines, films eligible for financial backing should have production costs ranging from HK$25 million ($3.19 million) to 150 million and must receive general cinema screenings across Hong Kong. Upon official screening in mainland theaters, the film will qualify for financial support of HK$10 million from the Hong Kong government.
