The directors of Galaxy Writer, a film honored at the 17th FIRST International Film Festival, have shared that renowned comedian Shen Teng agreed to a cameo role as a delivery man in the final scene during the film's promotional events.
As the debut feature of directors Li Kuo and Shan Dandan, who also co-wrote the script, Galaxy Writer draws from their personal experiences to depict the poignant struggles of two aspiring but unsuccessful scriptwriters.
Li noted that both he and Shan had previously worked at Mahua FunAge, a prominent comedy brand in China known for nurturing top talents like Shen and Ma Li. With this connection, Shen readily agreed to support the budding filmmakers by accepting the cameo role after they reached out to him following their return from the FIRST film festival last summer.
The film, which premiered nationwide on March 30, recently unveiled a promotional music video featuring popular office catchphrases, aiming to resonate with a younger audience.
Furthermore, the directors disclosed that the trio of actors — Song Muzi, He Wenjun, and Li Fei — were chosen after rigorous auditions. They were pleasantly surprised to find that the actors naturally embodied the camaraderie of real friends, likely due to their shared experience as members of a successful team on the popular contest program, Super Sketch Show.
