The Beijing People’s Art Theater has refreshed its adaptation of the classic Australian play, The Club, which premiered in Beijing on Sept 20. The new rendition will run until Oct 10.
Adapted from the satirical play by dramatist David Williamson of the same name, The Club was a huge success when the theater premiered it in 2002. It was directed by the late Ren Ming (1960-2022). Set in one location — the boardroom of a top professional soccer club — it features six male characters, who argue about the past and future of the club, with plenty of discussion about competitiveness, the desire for success, loyalty and ruthless business interests.
Xu Ang directs the new adaptation which features veteran actors Feng Yuanzheng, Yu Zhen and young actors Zhao Zhengtian and Gong Jiahao.
