In 1934, Red Army forces under the lead of Communist Party of China began an epic strategic retreat during which they went through toils and hardships to reach their destination in 1936.

In 2021, the year to mark the 85th anniversary of the Long March’s triumph, dozens of up-and-coming sculptors gathered at the National Art Museum of China where they entered a creation project on the Long March and would embark on a trip to retrace the routes of those armies. Led by Wu Weishan, director of NAMOC and himself a sculptor, the team of artists traveled to places in Fujian, Guizhou and Sichuan provinces to collect information.

A cluster of group sculptures were made to depict the important battles during the Long March and major difficulties to overcome, presenting the wisdom, courage and sacrifices of the people to contribute to the progress of Chinese revolutionary.

The works have been shown at different venues including at the NAMOC last month to celebrate its 60th anniversary.
