The Shanghai Theatre Academy unveiled its Memory and Dream of a City exhibition on Sunday, showcasing photos of statues of 50 foreigners to celebrate the city’s cultural connections and "international memories".
The Shanghai People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries reviewed 165 statues of 116 international celebrities in the city from 2018 to 2020 and presented a photo album based on their findings.
Of that album, 50 photographs of figures who have made significant cultural contributions to the city were chosen for exhibition.
"This exhibition reveals the impressive array of statues of foreigners in Shanghai, confirming the city's reputation as a welcoming and cooperative global metropolis," said Tobias Biancone, secretary-general of the International Theatre Institute, which moved its headquarters from Paris to Shanghai in 2015.
