At the 35th Beijing Book Fair in late February, the Public Library Collection Project of "Revitalization Library" kicked off. Ten public libraries, including the National Library of China, Capital Library of China and Shanghai Library, became the first libraries that collected these books.
The five-volume library is a significant national cultural project that was initiated in 2017. Themed on the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, following the historical development of thoughts, the library selects important literature concerning the national revival since the Opium War in 1840.
It presents a panoramic recording of the historical steps of the Chinese people who have perseveringly fought for a powerful and prosperous country and a happy life, displaying the thoughts that have influenced the process of China's development, the advancement of the society and the promotion of national revival. Furthermore, it also profoundly reveals the historical logic, the lineage of thought and the cultural context for China in its march toward rejuvenation.
The first three volumes were completed in October 2022, consisting 195 works covering years between 1840 and 1921, between 1921 and 1949, between 1949 and 1978, respectively. The remaining two volumes are currently being compiled, devoted to works between 1978 and 2012 and those after the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012.
Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, wrote the foreword to the library. He pointed out that "the publication of this classic is of great significance for us to boost confidence in our history, grasp the trend of the times, follow the Chinese path, and promote the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation with Chinese modernization".
