Tianjin Education Press launched the Chinese translation of three Lao books at the 35th Beijing Book Fair, as the first fruits of the translation project of humanities classics in Asia.
The three books are The Life and Revolutionary Cause of Kaysone Phomvihane, a biography about the great forefather of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, The Two Sisters, a classic Lao novel, and Khounbourom King, a book rich in Lao mythology and folk tales.
The "translation project of humanities classics in Asia" was launched in 2020, and in April 2021, China and Laos signed a memorandum that planned to translate 50 books from the two sides into Chinese or Lao languages.
The three books are translated into Chinese for the first time, and "by reading them, Chinese readers can better learn about the history and literature of Laos", which will promote the cultural exchanges between the two countries, said Yang Hongjie, Party secretary of Tianjin Publishing and Media Group Co.
