Ni Maohua, first secretary at the Chinese Embassy in Mexico, attended the event. When interviewed by local media, she said that as a major local program of the global Happy Chinese New Year celebrations, the Chinese zodiac animal decoration competition has been held for two years in the colorful city of Guanajuato and it serves as a great platform for cultural and people-to-people exchanges between China and Mexico.
Launched in Mexico City in 2017, the zodiac animal decoration competition was then introduced to two other Mexican cities – Merida and Guanajuato. This year the competition was held in all three cities and the one in Guanajuato wrapped up the 2023 Chinese New Year celebrations in Mexico.
